What is "die Offene"?

Our learning platform offene.fernuni-hagen.de has been available since 2017. The special thing about this platform is that it also enables external participants to take part in online courses at the FernUniversität. Use the platform to network students across disciplines, bring different institutions together or offer further training on selected topics.

What does the open platform offer learners?

Learners have the opportunity to take part in courses without being enrolled as a student at the FernUniversität. However, there are also courses that are part of the courses offered by the degree programs. These take place on the Open Platform if, for example, they are in cooperation with other universities. There are also self-study courses for lecturers on the Open Platform, which are offered as part of the internal continuing education program.

What does the open platform offer teachers?

Teachers at FernUni can use this platform to offer open courses, e.g. as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) or provide Open Educational Resources (OER). Cooperations with other universities in Germany and abroad can use this learning platform for joint courses. Prospective students who are not yet enrolled can use it to access preparatory or bridging courses.

How do I find my way around?

The open platform also follows the classic Moodle structure. Once you have successfully logged in, you can select courses directly via the start page or via your dashboard. If you are not yet enrolled in any courses, you will find an overview of the categories for which courses are available on the start page. This is not a thematic sorting, but is based on the type of access to the courses, for example whether they belong to OER, are self-study courses or have open access. You will find the familiar materials and activities in the individual course environments.
